My hope is in these 4 legal representatives, in the people who handle directly with these animals, in the people that still eat meat, specially knowing the circumstances that these animals are raised in and most of it in God.

Message:

I believe that you should become a leader in animal welfare by requiring producers who want to supply products for federal agencies to meet animal welfare standards in this bill (room for farm animals to move around and adequate food, water, and veterinary care).
Also, by not permitting that the people who handle these animals abuse them by causing terrible pain when they attempt to to stand up and walk to their deaths.

I'VE BEEN WORKING ON THIS...

Hi,
I'm posting this ad in order to get people together that want to work for dogs that are neglected in different places when people use them as guard dogs. Animals are used and abused in so many different ways, and this is one type. Guard dogs are abandoned in brutal conditions in warehouses, garages, etc. to supposedly "protect" the place. They are isolated in chains during the day, with no vet care, not enough shelter against temperature conditions, sometimes without food and even water.
To help these dogs please e-mail or call me 415.306.2714.
I'm organizing trips to these places around the neighborhood to investigate each case and report it to authorities to STOP and prevent any abuse.

With all due respect:  

If the ethical veterinary standards states that:  “Veterinarians should first consider the needs of the patient: to relieve disease, suffering, or disability while minimizing pain or fear.” And if you are a caring person for all animals including humans, I wonder why you don’t do anything that is in your power to stop so much animal suffering.  The confinement that humans have put the animals into before slaughtering and consuming them, violate all the moral standards that veterinarians should consider as a priority in life.  Being a veterinarian is an admirable duty because they are dedicated to providing the best conditions to animals, as a medical doctor provides care to humans. But what is wrong with this practice, when the reality reveals another situation? Is it because the non – human animals can’t sue the veterinarians for their mal practice or for their unhealthy medical prescriptions? Or, is it because animals simply do not deserve any moral consideration from humans because they are less than humans, because they can’t reciprocate actions as humans do?  You know perfectly well that ALL animals suffer and that they avoid pain and look for pleasure. You know that ALL animals are part of an ecosystem that needs to be preserved in order for the humans to survive. You have seen so many things through your career and through your personal life that need to be preserved in the present for a better future. And you know that a big part of this is the animals.  You are in a position to consider the animals morally more than most of the people and to make real positive changes in their lives, as well as in ours. You are privileged when it comes to making real changes to improve the lives of ALL animals. Please do anything that is in your power to STOP so much animal suffering and continue changing the way that animals are raised and slaughtered in factory farms. Animals need humans to speak for them in order to be preserved.

Si los standars éticos veterinarios dictaminan: " Los veterinarios deberían considerar primero las necesidades del paciente: aliviar la enfermedad, sufrimiento, o disabilidad meintras se minimiza el dolor y el miedo". Y si Ud. es una persona que le propcupan los animals inluyendo los humanos, me pregunto porqué no hace todo lo que esté a su alcance para PARAR tanto sufrimiento animal. El confinamiento que los humanos han impuesto a los animals antes de matarlos y consumirlos viola todos los standars morales que los veterinarios deberían considerar como prioridad en la vida.
Ser un veterinario es una tarea admirable porque se dedica a proveer las mejores condiciones a los animales, así como los médicos lo hacen con los humanos. ¿Pero qué pasa con esta práctica, cuando la realidad revela otra situación? ¿Será porque los no – humanos no pueden demandar a los veterinarios por su mala praxis o por las medicamentos dañinos que les prescriben? ¿O, es porque los animales simplemente no merecen ninguna consideración moral debido a que no pueden reciprocar las acciones al mismo nivel que los humanos lo hacen?
Ud. sabe perfectamente que TODOS los animales sufren, que rechazan el dolor y buscan el placer. Ud. sabe que TODOS los animales son parte de un ecosistema que necesita ser preservado para que los humanos sobrevivan. Ud. ha visto tantas cosas durante su carrera y durante su vida personal que necesitan ser preservadas en el presente por un mejor futuro. Y Ud. sabe que una gran parte de esas cosas que necesitan ser preservada son los animales.
Ud. está en una posición que puede considerar a los animales moralmente y lograr cambios significativos, más que la mayoría del resto de las personas. Ud. es privilegiado cuando nos referimos a hacer cambios reales en los animales para mejorar su calidad de vida.
Por favor haga todo lo posible para PARAR tanto sufrimiento animal y continúe cambiando la manera como los animales son críados y matados en las granjas industriales, de manera de eliminar su sufrimiento.
Los animales necesitan humanos que hablen por ellos para ser preservados.

The following letter is the one I sent to Governor Cozine to protect Congo's life. A case that has been in the New Jersey's news.
Dear Governor Corzine:
I'm very concerned about the case of the German Shepard, Congo.
When we review Congo’s case it seems that we have given too many human characteristics to animals, we had anthropomorphised this animal so much, up to the point that we are limiting his period of life for loving and defending his owner.
We teach animals to behave the way we want according to some rules, so when we humans expect something different from them we automatically punish them for our inconsistency, for not being faithful to our rules. Dogs give unconditional love, care and protection to humans, and that’s what Congo did, nothing different. The dog was protecting the property because he was taught to do that. The dog was just obeying the rules when the estranger came into the house without permission from the owners.
According to the owner’s lawyer, Robert Lytle (a person who knows New Jersey’s laws well), “… the dogs had a right to protect themselves and their owner”.

Please do anything that is in your power to prevent anyone from hurting or killing this animal.

Please do anything that it's in your power to not permit the extermination of Feral Cats. Meet with NYC Feral Cat Initiative representatives and come up with a plan to manage the JFK cats. One of the solutions can be to spay and neuter these animals to avoid the proliferation. At least by controlling the natality of these cats the problem will be contained. Another
solution could be seeking out a sanctuary that is willing to take them.
It seems that they are wild animals and it's harder to confine them to houses. From what I read, one member
of of the staff airport, Mr. DiFulco, says that: "... 50 to 75 cats had converged in a parking lot near Building 67, part of the Delta Air Lines cargo area and it’s creating a hazard for the aircraft". If that is the case there must be a solution besides killing these animals that have been in this area for years. Killing animals should not be the solution because these animals are part of nature and we souldn't interfere with it. I believe that if these cats are causing problems to humans, you Miss Baer and other
members of the JFK should solve it. You are the ones capable of coming up with a solution that lets these animals be wild how nature intented them to be.

THE CRUEL BUSINESS OF GUARD DOGS - EL CRUEL NEGOCIO DE LOS PERROS GUARDIANES

Even though people in some cultures have consideration for dogs, it's incredible how you can see that in the same culture these animals don't receive any care, love or respect.
Dogs in this country and probably in a lot of others, are used and abused by people for their economical benefit. Such is the case of the "GUARDIAN DOGS". This business is based in the idea of getting money from people who want their places (lots, garages, houses) to be protected by intruders. But the unconsidered part of this business is that they treat these animals as things, as if they didn't suffer any kind of abuse such as lack of vet services, food, water, attention, love, etc. These companies get the dogs from the streets, shelters (because they are about to die) and/or from people who want some money for the trade.
It's another way of how people exploit the animals.

Please do something useful for these dogs that are victims of the wrong use of human power and visit:

Aunque algunas personas en ciertas culturas tienen consideraciones por los perros, es increíble como, al mismo tiempo, se puede apreciar que estos mismos animales no reciben ningún cuidado, amor o respeto.
Los perros en este país y problamente en muchos otros, son usados y abusados por gente para su propio beneficio económico. Tal es el caso de los perros llamados guardianes. Este negocio gana dinero ofreciendo el servicio (alquiler) de perros guardianes para custodiar la propiedad privada (terrenos, garajes, casas). Pero la desconsideración por parte de estas compañías y por parte de quienes alquilan a los perros, es que estos animales son tratados como si no padecieran tantos abusos, como la falta de servicios veterinarios, de agua, de comida, de atención, de amor, etc. Estas compañías agarran a los perros de las calles, de los refugios (porque eventualemente morirán) y/o de la gente que quiere ganar dinero fácil.
Esta es otra manera de cómo la gente usa, abusa, explota y maltrata a los animales.

Por favor hagan algo al respecto. Cualquier abuso, abandono que vean no se queden de brazos cruzados. Hagan algo por estos animales que son víctimas del mal uso del poder humano y visiten:

De verdad vale la pena, hay tomas que nunca hemos visto en Earthlings o los videos de siempre. Y creo que es un buen documental al menos para abrir los ojos de la gente. No da protagonismo al sufrimiento de los animales (aunque inevitablemente se fija) pero muestra imágenes crudas, tal y como son, sin ningún ánimo de encubrir nada.
Y las imágenes son de excelente calidad. Impresiona por la "desnudez" de sus imágenes, sin palabras. Un minimalismo clamoroso.

Today I went to a protest against the horse - drawn carriages at Central Park South where the horses are located. It's pretty bad the situation of these horses in the streets of New York.
Last Friday, September 14 a 13 year old horse spooked from a loud noise and ran into traffic and was killed. And another horse freaked out and crashed into a car. This tragic story is not new. This is the third accident in three months. These horses work nine hours a day, seven days a week and the conditions that they live in are not good. Added to this, when they are not good enough to work they often go to auction where they can be purchased by slaughter houses.

Hoy fui a una protesta al sur de Central Park en contra de las carrozas de caballos. Es lamentable la situación en la que se encuentran estos caballos en las calles de Nueva York.
El viernes pasado, septiembre 14 un caballo de 13 años de edad salió corriendo asustado por una bulla y corrió al tráfico, matándose. Otro caballo, también se asustó y chocó contra un carro. Esta trágica historia no es nueva. Este es el tercer accidente en tres meses. Estos caballos trabajan 9 horas al día por 7 días y las condiciones en las que vieven no son las mejores. Y aunado a esto, cuando no sirven para trabajar, usualmente los subastan en donde pueden ser comprados por mataderos.

SHAC poco a poco ha ido creciendo para incluir una campaña internacional de hostigamiento, intimidación, y coacción contra las empresas de prueba del animal y cualesquiera compañía o individuo que haga negocio con esas compañías señaladas.

SHAC no sólo ha tenido como objetivo a HLS sino a compañías que son afiliadas con él. En la Web de SHAC se publican las listas de estas compañías, extendiéndose a las compañías farmacéuticas y a los inversionistas. SHAC ha utilizado una variedad de tácticas para acosar y para intimidar a estas compañías afiliadas, a sus empleados, y a los miembros de sus familias, incluyendo amenazas de muerte, vandalismo, invasiones a las oficina, protestas frente a las empresas, bloqueos de sus teléfonos, y ataques contra sus sistemas informáticos.

The Observer desenmascaró el mundo oculto de la vivisección que existe en HLS. Una vasta cantidad de documentos fueron publicados. Éstos revelan como primates fueron usados con el fin de buscar una solución debido a la falta global de órganos humanos para transplantes. Se reveló que al menos 500 monos babuinos fueron capturados de África para los experimentos.

Los investigadores describieron como estos monos babuinos murieron por ataques de vómitos y diarreas. Los síntomas incluían espasmos violentos, desahogos con mucha sangre, rechinamiento de dientes e incontrolables movimientos oculares. Otros animales permanecían en diminutas jaulas, hasta que le tocaba la hora de la miseria. En total 10.000 monos babuinos y cerdos murieron horriblemente en estos experimentos. Para los científicos involucrados, la verdadera tragedia es la falla del proyecto para vencer el rechazo natural del cuerpo humano hacia ciertos órganos como el corazón y el riñón de animales.

Los documentos revelaron falsificaciones de datos así como violaciones incontables de los leyes de los derechos de los animales En total, al menos 520 falsificaciones y omisiones en la investigación realizada . Esto incluye pesos de órganos que no fueron anotados, administración de dosis excesivas -inclusive 4 veces más, informes contradictorios y re-utilización de animales.

Novartis afirmó que estaba muy cerca de resolver la cuestión crucial del rechazo de órganos, lo cual impidió el procedimiento más lógico y eficaz: realizar pruebas en humanos. Anunció al mundo que estaría lista para comenzar a trasplantar corazones de cerdos a humanos en el lapso de un año. To defend animals dissection by saying: "... I would use the example of driving a real car versus a driving simulation on a computer or in a game room machine. The real-time dissection provides awareness to all of the senses -- touch especially -- texture, form, etc." for me it doesn't make much sense.
To compare animal dissection with driving a real car instead of driving a simulation doesn’t have any relation. A car does not suffer, an animal does.
The experience of dissecting an animal can be brutal not only for the animal but for the student as well. There are a lot of bad behaviors in humans that can come from seeing this type of practice.
Also, dissecting an animal brings more unnecessary suffering. The animals are used in so many ways, that when humans come up with alternatives to stop the animal's suffering why not use them? What's the pleasure of seeing an animal suffer if you can see it, study it without causing pain? You mentioned that: "The real-time dissection provides awareness to all of the senses -- touch especially -- texture, form, etc". Awareness to our senses? But, what about the senses of the animals? All animals, including humans, share the capacity to feel pain and pleasure and the desire to avoid pain when it's caused to them. Your comparison is selfish, it implies that other beings besides humans don't count at all. It's though, comparable to how Rene Descartes referred to animals. "He concludes that nonhuman animals can be viewed as no more than machines with parts assembled in intricate ways. Based on Descartes ' rationale, humans have little responsibility to other animals or the natural world, unless the treatment of them affects other humans". Senator James Inhofe, with all due respect:
I'm an animal lover and wish to express to you my concern about what I've read in the Shac 7 web page:
"Today we see a return of these tactics in the collaboration between U.S. Senator James Inhofe (R-OK) and F.B.I. Deputy Assistant Director John Lewis. In hearings last year, Lewis labeled the animal liberation and environmental movements the biggest domestic terrorism threats facing the country".
I find these words pretty ironic and hypocritical especially when they come from people who are supposedly working for JUSTICE to be done.
In this world like it or not we need to learn how to coexist with the animals and with the environment. We live in an environment, we are surround by it and we make our living possible because of the animals. Everything that we need to survive is directly or indirectly extracted from nature. By nature, I mean: animals, plants and the environment. What these means Senator Inhofe, since I’m aloud to speak freely in this country, is that I’m urging you to rethink your positions on this issue. You shouldn't agree with such statement because we need to provide care for nature, not only for humans. It is very simple. We live because of nature. And if you believe in God I’m incline to say that this God that we both believe in does not see fit to our negative actions against nature, against animals who are constantly abused by humans in industrial farms, in testing laboratories and in the entertainment field such as circuses and zoos.
Please speak for the animals not against them. You are in a position where you can make radical changes, but they should be positive ones.

My respond to PETA: When I First Fell in Love With Animals

I didn't like animals until I pass through a very difficult moment in my house back in my hometown Venezuela. I needed to go out of my house before I expected, so I went to live with an aunt, who I wasn't close to. Anyway, this aunt had a poodle named Coco and even though he wasn't that friendly because they didn't teach him to be that way, and I wasn't an animal lover at all, we started to get along great. He was with me in my hardest times, he was the only one that cried and laughed with. Every time I came back from the University he got sooo... excited. I used to take him out every day al least three times a day. Anyway, unexpectedly I started to love this magnificent creature and with that I started to care so much for all the stray dogs. I couldn't resist seen them having such a hard time without me doing anything. So I started to pick here and there a few stray dogs and found homes for them. Most of the cases resulted well but some didn't. After that, my thesis in order to obtain my bachelor's degree in Philosophy was about Ecology Ethics, where I tried to extend part of John Rawls theory of justice to nature (animals & environment). I thought that it was necessary to treat nature with justice as well as we intend to relate to humans. Although I couldn't conclude that, because Rawls theory of Justice only refers to justice when he talks about humans, I did determine that the principle of RESPECT should always be consider when we humans relate to non - humans. We can't just do what we want to do without considering the consequences of our acts especially when they interfere with nature.
Today my strongest passion is the animal welfare. I’m concerned about all the animals. I’m vegetarian and intend one day to have an animal sanctuary where I can have animals that can be rescued from zoos, circus, from people that abuse them. It’s a constant fight against people that destroy nature.

PETA protest against HORSE CARRIAGES

This protest was my first one. It was located at City Hall. People from different organizations went to support the horses that are used in Times Square and in South Central park area for turists. On July 4th one of these horses was hit pretty hard by a taxi driver.
I think there is no need to put these horses in such a stressed environment. Totally different from nature, the one that they belong to. I pass many flyers informing people about the situation and gave an interview saying what I thought about this issue, making sure that people understand my possition as well as so many different people that were fighting for this good cause.

Si parto de la consideración que todos los seres vivos no humanos también son capaces de experimentar placer y dolor, concluyo que también estos seres merecen consideraciones éticas o morales por parte del hombre. Es precisamente esta capacidad de sentir la que nos hace animales y la que compartimos los seres humanos con los no humanos.
Ahora bien, lo interesante y desafiante para mi es saber cuáles son los tipos de consideraciones de las que estamos hablando.
Así como compartimos la semejanza de sentir, también tenemos nuestras diferencias. Y una de ellas, es la de que tenemos una capacidad de racionalización distinta a la de los seres vivos no humanos. ¿Sin embargo, esa capacidad de razonar distinta nos hace superiores y nos da el poder de hacer y deshacer a estos seres de manera arbitraria? ¿Acaso al establecer la distinción entre ambos animales viene incluído la aceptación a menospreciar a los animales no humanos por parte nuestra?

Ike & Chiquito

The black and white dog is our precious Ike Foreman. He is such a wonderful and strong doggy. He loves to play with Estela and to destroy toys that get his attention. "Everybody loves Ike..." is our typical saying. When ever we go out with him he gets all the attention and I feel bad for Estela. He always wants to be pet. He can be very furious but as soon as you pet him he totally changes. We got Ike from a shelter located at JFK. His story is a tragic one. The lady told us that a breeder from Upstate NY decided to kick out around 14 dogs. We don't now exacty why she didn't want him, but probably had to do with one of his paws, he had a cast on it. As soon as we saw him he started to wag his tail from the cage and Simon fell in love with him immediatly.
And the white furry one is my dog Chiquito who stays in Venezuela with my parents. I miss him so much and I would like to bring him with us. When Simon refers to him talking with Ike & Estela he says: "Your long last brother Chiquito Márquez...".
Anyway, I have him since 2001 on my 27th birthday. Maggy (my younger sister) bought him from a guy who sells dogs inside of his car.
I wanted a dog after being with my aunt's dog Coco for a month, when I stayed in her house that same year. It was really tough what I was passing through in my life when I met Coco. I fell in love with him, but Coco already had an owner. My aunt, on the other hand, didn't want another dog in her house. So, Maggy got me a poodle very similar to Coco.
When I came in 2004 it wasn't a good idea to bring him with me because I didn't know in what conditions I was going to live in NY. After going back and forth to Venezuela I wanted to bring him with me, but my dad loves and cares for him so much that it seems that for now he will stay there.

ESTELA & MACHO - BUSTER

Estela is my princess and Macho - Buster is a dog that also has his own story. Macho was given to a homeless guy that plays the saxophone in the subway. He was trying to sell the dog for $20 with no success. Then, he gave it to another homeless guy who offer the dog to my husband Simon. When I came back from work Simon told me about the incident and of course I couldn't resist getting into the struggle and pleasure of finding him a good home. I put an ad on craigslist and with God's blessing it seems that everything turn out great for him. I called the women 1 week later and she was almost talking more to him than to me. By this and by taking him to the vet, buying him a lot of toys and neutering him, I assume that he has a pretty good life now. Again, thank God.

The story of this dog goes back to May 23rd. I met a women close to where we live that had her for over 6 months, but she didn't have too much time or patience to take care of her properly. Anyway to make the long story short, my friend Heidi took her and now both of them are sooo... happy thank God.

Why a lot of people don't care?

Yesterday, my husband & I saw a program on T.V. where they started to peel an Eel mean while it was still alive, as if this animal didn’t suffer. The chef in the program took the animal from a container with water and started to peel out the skin.
It's unbelievable how people put limits to animal suffering randomly. Where is the limit of animal suffering? Why do people consider one animal more than another one when it comes to suffering, to feel pain, to cause it or to avoid it? It seems that a lot of this has to do with the culture that you are immerse in. Depending on the culture some people seem to care more about certain animals than others.
In South American countries for example they eat all type of animals, and they don't usually care about the conditions that they are raised in nor the way the animal is cooked.
Here in North America it seems to be clear that people mark a line, a limit to animal suffering when it refers to dogs & cats, which both are under the category of domesticated animals. Although, when we think about domesticated animals why don't we feel the same compassion for animals such as chickens, pigs, cows and turkeys? What and who determines which feels more pain? Where should we draw the line and not care about the animal suffering?
These types of subjects and concerns are well treated by authors like Peter Singer & Jesús Mosterín. Both of them are well-respected philosophers who are dedicated to examining the conditions that animals are put in by humans.
One of my main concerns in life is how animals are treated, how they are raised, in what conditions they live from the day they are born until they die. That's why I'm concern about INDUSTRIAL FARMS. Concern about how people raised and kill the animals for food and/or for comfort and luxury. Concern if the animal suffers for a considerable period of time before it actually dies.
Even though I don't share the eating of animals I still believe that those people who do, should be aware of how the animals are raised and the way that they are killed. The less suffering during their life period and the less suffering during their death should be something to keep in mind because ultimately ALL ANIMALS (including US) have the capacity to feel pain and the wish to avoid it.
